LCI was again blessed to host bishops and senior curial staff for an intensive English course, from September 22-October 6. Fifteen participants from ten countries spent the two weeks immersed in English: from Morning Prayer to meals to Mass and of course, in classes, the bishops practiced their English language skills.

The bishops participated in life at the Kartause, even joining the 5k Run for Mercy in support of LCI.

Taking long walks – while practicing English, or course – was one of their favorite activities, so whenever the weather permitted the lessons moved outdoors.

One afternoon was dedicated to the bishops sharing about the situation in their home dioceses regarding catechesis and evangelization. The challenges mentioned varied from secularization in the Czech Republic, to emigration in Latvia, to political obstacles in Kazakhstan. The discussion helped everyone see the urgent needs of the Church.

Overall the presence of the bishops blessed the Kartause community. Their humble attitudes, ardent desire to communicate, and delightful sense of humor warmed our hearts and helped us appreciate their courage and perseverance in serving the Church.
